Healdsburg, CA (September XX, 2013) – As the kids head back to school, Northern Sonoma County’s Wine Road is inviting visitors to experience their members with a more educational goal in mind. With 190 vintners and 50 lodgings throughout the Alexander, Dry Creek, and Russian River valleys, the Wine Road has something to offer for curious minds of all interests. Hands-on educational experiences include:
Sbragia Family Vineyards

Daily Tours
After a brief introduction to the winery’s family history and winery, guests will experience a tasting of Sbragia Family Vineyard wines and tour the winemaking facility.  Throughout, visitors will learn about vineyards, barrels, harvest equipment, and bottling. Tour and tasting is $15 per person.

The Lynmar Luxury Seated Tasting
This special tasting experience offers a unique and intimate understanding of the philosophy behind Lynmar’s hand-crafted wines. Guests enjoy an in-depth, privately hosted experience customized to meet their wine education needs. With a selection of six limited release wines, this purely wine-focused experience explores the subtleties of Russian River Valley Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. WSET notebooks are given to guests to enhance their tasting experience along with block-by-block maps. Available daily at 11am, $50 per person. Call 877.282.3441 for reservations.

Seated Tasting
For an in-depth educational experience, the Seated Tasting will guide guests through a tasting of five limited production wines providing background on the winery’s history and the unique vineyards for each wine. The tasting experience is capped off with barrel samples of upcoming vintages. Price is $25 per person or complimentary with a $150 wine purchase.

Introduction to Wine & Industry Professionals Classes
A 4-week intensive guide for the casual wine lover and true aficionado. Courses include:
September 3rd: Introduction to Wine
September 10th: Wine Production
September 17th: Major Wine Regions of the World
September 24th: Purchasing Wine as a Wine Lover & Selling Wine as an Industry

Sunday Vineyard Hike
Guests are invited to experience a grape to glass tour as they hike the Wetzel Family Estate, home of Alexander Valley Vineyards, tasting wines where the grapes grow. After the hike, participants will taste wine from the barrel in the winery’s underground wine cave. Offered every Sunday at 10am, reservations are required (July 14 through September 29). J’s Bubble Room
Judy Jordan founded J’s educational wine and food pairing program in 1999 – one of the first in Sonoma County. In the Bubble Room, a full-service tasting salon, guests will enjoy an exclusive tasting including rare library and small-production wines, served with three courses of organic and locally-sourced fare. Thursday to Sunday at 11am, 12 pm and 3 pm; $75 per person.

Meritage: The Art of the Blend
Participants are invited to explore the fine art of Meritage blending while learning the history of the classic Bordeaux-style blend, tasting and measuring the five noble red grape varietals, ultimately creating their own perfect blend. Saturdays & Sundays by appointment; $45/per person.

Vineyard to Glass Tasting Tour
Join Amphora’s winemaker, Rick Hutchinson, for a view of this year’s harvest.  Start with a walking tour of Timber Crest Vineyards and hear from Rick on what he looks for in the grapes, such as brix and flavor profile.  After learning about the vineyard and the fruit, head back to the winery where Rick will go through the wine making process, including crushing grapes.  Start the tasting experience with the freshly pressed juice, to the 2012 vintage out of the barrel and finish with the current release.  This exclusive time with the winemaker is limited to 20 people.  Cost is $40 per person for the public; four-hour duration.
