THE “FUTURE” IS NOW AT THE WINE ROAD’S 31ST ANNUAL BARREL TASTING EVENT IN NORTHERN SONOMA COUNTY
WHAT: Whether a novice or connoisseur, wine lovers will have the opportunity to meet with winemakers from throughout the Alexander, Dry Creek and Russian River Valleys of Northern Sonoma County, sample wines from the barrel, and purchase “futures” at a substantial discount at the Wine Road’s 31st Annual Barrel Tasting event starting March 7, 2009. As celebrated winemakers from wineries both large and small share their labors of love, guests will have the chance to visit the cellars of wineries during these two weekends only.
“This is the perfect event for those interested in adding to their wine collection or just serious about sampling fine wine,” says Beth Costa, Executive Director of the Wine Road. “It’s truly a unique experience to taste wine straight out of the barrel and talk with the winemaker themselves.” Patrons can purchase the wine at the event at a 25-30% discount, and receive their case lot typically 12-18 months later. Many of the wines sampled throughout the weekend are produced in such limited quantities that they are sold exclusively as “futures.”
WHO: Over 100 wineries will throw open their cellar doors as they celebrate this year’s Barrel Tasting. Members of the Wine Road are located in Dry Creek, Russian River and Alexander Valleys in Northern Sonoma County, California. A complete list of wineries participating will be available online beginning January 20st, 2009 at www.wineroad.com.
WHEN: March 7 & 8, 2009*
March 14 & 15, 2009*
11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
*A select number of wineries will also be pouring on the Friday of each weekend.
COST: Advance tickets will be available for purchase online for $20.00 per person for one entire weekend, including Friday. Advance tickets may be purchased from January 19th through March 1st at www.wineroad.com.
Tickets will also be available for purchase at wineries beginning on the Friday of each weekend for $30.00 per person.
ACCESS: Please be aware that large full-size buses will not be allowed at this event due to limited space. In order for wineries to be responsible hosts and provide an experience worth remembering, smaller groups of people are highly recommended.
