2014 Rose of Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley
This 2014 Rosé of Pinot Noir is refreshingly crisp with bright Bing cherry and strawberry; the bouquet perfumed with rose petal. Hints of berry jam and peach pair well with the wine’s lively acidity. This vintage shows real Pinot Noir elegance, yet lends itself nicely to casual entertaining. While perfect for warm summer nights, we find ourselves sipping this house favorite all year long. Be sure to serve slightly chilled.

2012 Dry Creek Sangiovese
The 2012 growing season produced fruit that offered hallmark characteristics, and our ’12 Sangiovese is a classic example. The nose presents subtle yet trademark aromas of deep mixed berries and a rich mineral essence all wrapped in a blanket of spices and earth. The mouth-feel is textured with bright acidity, making the wine an ideal match for tomato or cheese-based cuisine. Spice and dry leaves dominate the palate, while plush tannins and toasty oak quietly weave through the layers of fruit—cherry, tart plum, rhubarb, pomegranate and cranberry—providing an intriguing mix of flavors. This food-friendly wine is easy to pair and the options seem endless. From moussaka to pizza to barbequed ribs with a side of mac and cheese, this wine seamlessly fits into any meal. $26/bottle ($20.80 for Wine Club)

2012 Petit Verdot
The tempting and layered aromas reveal the solid structure and fabulous flavors that follow. The nose offers smoke, tobacco, leather and earth tones mingled with ripe blackberry and blueberry with traces of violet. Supple tannins and bright acidity punctuate the velvety smooth mouthfeel. Juicy black plum and dark berries merge with creamy oak, coffee and bittersweet chocolate as they caress the palate. Hints of coconut, cigar box, black pepper, eucalyptus and floral notes add to the complexity and depth of the wine. $36/bottle ($28.80 for Wine Club)

2013 Zinfandel, Marcucci Farms, Russian River Valley
Our Zinfandel comes from a vineyard located just off Laguna Road in Russian River Valley. Owned and loved by the Marcucci Family, this vineyard began six generations ago. Phil Marcucci farms in the Italian tradition passed down through the generations. Always offering up consistent and solid fruit, the vineyard is a mainstay of the Portalupi portfolio. “Balance” is the word when describing the style of fruit grown on this historic property. Integrated moderate tannins coupled with cranberry/raspberry fruit are the hallmark of this wine’s pedigree. Spot-on, the wine begs for tomato sauce based pastas and classic american barbeque.

2008 Martinelli Rd, Old Vine, Russian River Valley, Zinfandel
Silver Medal at the 2014 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition! Deep purple in color with violet edging. Open nose of dark black fruit and berries, bark, briar, earth and spice, i.e. clove and cinnamon. Effusive, woody, not too ripe. Cedar cigar box notes. Mouth filling, big, luscious with medium forward tannins. Similar to huckleberries. Dusty chocolate and black cherry (kind of like Black Forest Cake!), black licorice and earth. A wine that drinks well now but I believe is still young and will develop further. One for now and one for the road as they say. A long road it may be as the 2008 Martinelli Zin takes a bow and bids us here at woodenhead adieu!
