97 Points – Meridith May, The Sommelier Journal The 2021 Alexander Valley-Chalk Hill Cabernet Sauvignon is a limited production that highlights the strength and nuance of the fruit found at the southern end of the Alexander Valley AVA. The particular vineyard block selected for this wine is nestled on a south-facing slope within the rolling hills of the Battle Vineyard and provides ideal soil structure and sun exposure to ensure consistency and a powerful character. “The 2021 Alexander Valley Cabernet exudes the savory fruit we crave from the finer wines of the region. Blueberry, blackcurrant, and stewed plum are present across the entire palate, along with the classic cabernet notes including black cherry and are paired with the distinct and abundant tannin from both fruit and barrel. Hints of tobacco and leather combined with lilac fill the nose creating a well-rounded and compelling experience.” – DM Aged in medium toasted, artisanal selections of French Oak Barrels for 23 months. Roughly 55% new barrels. As with all wines in the ACTA portfolio, the use of new oak is carefully applied with deference given to the character of the fruit and the goals of integration and balance being paramount. Only seven barrels of the 2021 Alexander Valley-Chalk Hill Cabernet Sauvignon were produced and the wine is available by request from the winery directly (limits may apply) or through membership.
