Hook & Ladder Winery

A fireman’s ethic of “never quit” defines Hook & Ladder Winery.

In 1970, San Francisco firefighter Cecil De Loach and wife Christine purchased a Zinfandel vineyard in the Russian River Valley. After building De Loach Vineyards into one of California’s best-know wineries and using it to put Russian River Valley Wines on the world map, they sold the brand and winery in 2003. Now Hook & Ladder Winery continues that same mission involving passion, persistence, and determination.

Over the years, Cecil and Christine’s family have joined the effort, and continue the dedication to the craft they started. His oldest grandson, Jason De Loach, is their proud winemaker, and brings a wealth of experience with him. At 31 years old this will be Jason’s 15th harvest. He attended viticulture classes at Santa Rosa Junior College and took courses in enology from the University of California at Davis. Upon finishing his education, Jason worked in cellars throughout the Russian River Valley and in Chile.  Cecil and Christine have built a strong platform for the younger generation who are now taking center stage.

Hook & Ladder has 375 acres of estate vineyards producing cool-climate grapes from which they hand-make top-rated Zinfandel, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Gewurztraminer, and a popular blend called “The Tillerman” just to name a few.
