At family-owned Murphy-Goode, the vineyards built the winery. With more than 300 acres of prime vineyard in the heart of Alexander Valley, it made sense to make sure the exceptional quality of the fruit made it into the bottle. Murphy-Goode was founded in 1985 by Tim Murphy and Dale Goode, growers with decades behind them in Sonoma County, along with friend Dave Ready. The focus is on estate varietals including Reserve Fume, and Reserve Chardonnay plus Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from steep hillside vineyards.

Visitors can also try the winery's famed "Liar's Dice" Zinfandel (ask how it got its name) and small lots of other special wines from winemaker David Ready Jr. The handsome tasting room hosts a polished wood bar and an intriguing selection of gifts - including Murphy-Goode Aloha shirts.
