Italy is home to over 300 grape varieties, and many of them grow happily right here in Sonoma County. Our welcoming climate and suitable soils are conducive to an array of Italian varietals. More and more producers are adding Italian varietals to their portfolios, with some dedicating their entire program to them. Be it red, white, sparkling, or even skin contact in style, there is a great selection of Italian varietals to discover along the Wine Road.
Italian reds such as Sangiovese, Primitivo, and Barbera are well known and well loved. But there are many more reds to try including Dolcetto, Nero d’Avola, and Negroamaro, to name a few. Among the whites, you’ll find exciting new flavor profiles in Biancolella, Fiano, and Ribolla Gialla, alongside old favorites like Pinot Grigio.
