Native New Englanders Peter and Diana Merriam first envisioned a French-style winery in the United States during their honeymoon in France, where they were struck by the rich culture of food and wine and the seamless quality between life and work among French vignerons. After more than a five-year search for the perfect vineyard with pedigree, they purchased Windacre in 2000 and began blending French-style wines on the warmest edge of the Russian River Valley.

Since acquiring Windacre in 2000, Peter Merriam has taken the first step in creating blends with true vineyard character by complementing the original merlot vines with cabernet franc, petit verdot, and cabernet sauvignon. In other words, the true blending of Merriam estate wines begins in the estate Windacre Vineyard.


In 2008 Merriam Vineyards proudly introduced their new winery and tasting room, where visitors are invited to cross cultures as they taste California-crafted Bordeaux-style wines in a tasting room designed to reflect the comfort and warmth of a New England-style home.

Details: We are excited to announce that on Saturday July 27th from noon to 4pm we will be opening up our private cellar and hosting an exclusive tasting of our library wines in the tasting room. We will be pouring vertical selections of our Windacre Merlot going back to our very first vintage in 2000, as well as early vintages of our Windacre Cabernet Franc, Jones Vineyard Cabernet Franc, Block 21 Cabernet Sauvignon, Dunnsden Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Block 8 Cabernet Sauvignon and Miktos.This is an excellent opportunity to taste and purchase wines that have been cellared properly for a number of years. Chef Mike Matson will be on hand with some fantastic light appetizers to help refresh your palate. We will also be pouring a limited selection of our large format bottles. Details: Merriam Vineyards offers its Reserve Flight of wines paired with a "bits and bites" food pairing daily from 10am to 5pm. The Reserve Wine & Food pairing is $12 per person and is refundable with the purchase of a bottle of wine from the Reserve Flight. The "bits & bites" tasting is usually comprised from an assortment of five to six cheeses, savory and sweet items that are meant to bring together the melody of flavors and textures in our Bordeaux style wines and show how they can compliment and work together with an array of flavors from the kitchen. Groups of six and under are available daily on a walk in basis. Groups of seven and over will require an appointment.
