Bjornstad Cellars

These small production, single vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines come from appellations within Sonoma County. These celebrated vineyards are the result of their unique blend of location, environment and stewards. Our work together began in 1997 and I believe that human relationships also find their expression through grapes and wines. Through cultivating the grapes and raising the wine, it is my hope to shape the expression of a vineyard’s history, focus the effect of a growing season, combine the passion of the grower and the elements of Mother Nature into wines that are elegantly balanced, deliciously flavored, richly textured and firmly structured. Native yeast and malolactic bacteria ferment the wines and both varieties rest on their lees in barrel for 11 months, aging in French Oak with just enough new wood (approximately 50%) to support the wine rather than overwhelm it. I stay out of the way during this time, just making sure the wines are sound and barrels full. This minimal intervention continues with two rackings from barrel and back prior to bottling to preserve the freshness and character of the wine. As a result, some sediment may appear as the wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered. Skål! - Greg Bjornstad
