Tasting Room Manager - Sonoma-Cutrer Vineyards

Manages the day-to-day operations of the Sonoma-Cutrer Tasting Room and onsite guest experiences. Key areas of responsibility include tourism, consumer tastings, event management, retail operations, inventory management, budget oversight and business management/reporting. Roles & Responsibilities: Manages all activity of the Tasting Room/Retail space - 40% • Hiring, training, evaluating, coaching and overseeing the performance of the tasting room sales associates and support staff. • Make sure all tasting room staff is fully educated on the wines, winery, vineyard, upcoming events and any other pertinent information that aids in customer service. • Oversee that the Tasting Room and its experiences exemplify the high quality of our wines • Daily responsibility for the management and clean-up of facility and preparation of it for all tours. • Provides work leadership to others through assignment of work, review of progress, monitoring of results and instruction. • Ensures that cleanliness of the tasting room, terrace, private salons and all guest areas is maintained; exhibits attention to detail. Ensures all décor is properly maintained including plants and decorations. • Responsible for communicating any opportunities, issues or concerns to the Homeplace Manager. • Responsible for maintaining and merchandising the non-wine related products inside the Tasting Room. • Oversee the accuracy of routine purchasing transactions, which includes; operating cash register, accounting of daily sales, processing returns and tracking discounts. Processes wine and retail merchandise sales, i.e. pulling orders for customers, completing sales transactions and assisting with wine carry-outs and loading. Delivers exceptional on-site guest experiences - 30% • Coordinates and conducts public and private tours of winery facilities including private wine and food experiences. • Develop, implement and maintain industry outreach and referral program to drive business to Sonoma-Cutrer Tasting Room. • Be the leader in demonstrating and delivering exceptional customer service. • Maintains in-depth knowledge about our wines, our winemaking techniques, the vineyards, the brand, our history and the winery itself. Communicates these with clarity and passion. • Greets visitors and answers questions regarding winery and surrounding area and pours wines for tasting. • Assist with hospitality special events as needed. • Provides general tourist information and, in some case, more concierge type service, calling restaurants for reservations, assisting with appointments at other wineries. • Promotes the sale of wine, non-wine products sold on-site and membership in Club Cutrer, Sonoma-Cutrer’s wine club. Participates in event management and oversight – 10% • Partners with the Homeplace Manager, DTC Manager and Sales & Events Manager to develop activities that promote the brand and winery. • Represents winery at outside functions as needed. Manages business aspects of operation – 20% • Partners with DTC Manager to oversee shipping activity, adhere to internal and legal shipping guidelines. Monitors all shipments for compliance, fulfillment and delivery status in accordance with local, state and federal laws and regulations. • Assists DTC Manager and Homeplace Manager with club shipments and pick up orders as needed. • Under direction of Homeplace Manager, monitors budgets for wages, operating supplies in relation to the tasting room cost centers. • Is responsible for tasting room wine inventories and ordering. • Participates in the Manager Quarterly Meetings and training sessions as needed. • Acts as a member of the safety committee and is the head of safety for the hospitality department. Conducts monthly trainings and ensures all hospitality employees are trained. • Manages the all employee performance reviews, keeps the staff engaged and provides coaching for performance/growth. Qualifications: • Is a Team Player – with SCV employees, guest and industry partners. • Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities include; o Education – High school or equivalent; requires reading and writing in English and strong math skills. o Experience managing and developing a team of employees o Knowledge of food and wine industry required. o Prior Experience – minimum of two years retail sales experience. Prior experience in wine industry and tasting rooms is required. Knowledge of general wine principals, wine growing and winemaking is strongly preferred. o Valid CA Driver’s License – required. Must be at least 21 years of age to sell alcohol products. • Adheres to all safety standards and procedures. • Physical Requirements - Ability to climb stairs and ladders is needed to stock shelves and arrange displays and decorations. Ability to work on feet for long periods of time, bending and lifting movements, manual dexterity, and ability to lift 40-50lbs is required. • Work Environment – Will require work in specialty retail environment. Outdoor work is expected for tastings and periodic events. Will require work in various off-site settings as well, i.e. retail marketplaces event stations and tasting booths. Working and standing on concrete floors, for extended periods of time, can be expected. • Technical Skills –knowledge and understanding of food and wine, demonstrated exceptional customer service. • Must be able to read well and follow directions easily. • Computer skills – computer skills required for cash register operation and report maintenance and tracking. • Communication Skills – Must be able to communicate effectively with consumers, trade guests, employees, management, vendors and team-members. Must be able to effectively lead tastings and speak to groups of consumers, answer questions and respond in a professional manner. • Attendance/Schedule – This is a full time exempt position, in a 7-day per week retail environment. Will require weekend and holiday work. May require overtime, on an as-needed basis.
