Wine Awards

We’re excited to share the following accolades received by the wineries along the Wine Road.

If you don’t see your favorite winery, don’t despair. Not all wineries send their wines for review or to competitions, but that doesn’t make their wines any less delicious.

Many of our winery members produce small lots of wine, so their case production is too small to meet the criteria for wine competitions. Plus, most reviewing sources require a wine be either distributed out of state or produced in large enough quantity to be available for purchase for several weeks after the review is published.

We hope this list of scores and awards will encourage you to explore new wines and new wineries on your next visit along the Wine Road.

Wine: 2021 BCD Vineyard Pinot Noir

Purchase Here

Date Awarded: June 2024

Details: 93 points from Wine Enthusiast. Under the initial aromas is a distinct and interesting spice undertone that aromatically lifts the wine, but it’s the mid- palate weight, texture and perfect touch of acidity that define it. It’s full and coating, start to finish, wave upon wave of pinot pleasure. Bright and dark simultaneously, with mocha and earth aromas playing off fresh cherries. It has a wide and silky palate, booming aromas and just enough acidity and tannins to pull the wine through to a long and lasting finish. It's quite a ride.

Wine: 2023 Sauvignon Blanc

The wine is underestimated and elegant with a driving acidity that's quenched by a generous and surprisingly lush mid-palate that brings a tense, perfect balance. The aromas are graceful with a combination of limey tropical fruit and a touch of classic Sauvignon Blanc earthiness. It's bright and savory, tart and lush all in the same package. The wine is completely dry with zero residual sugar to hide behind. It's a pure example of how good Sauvignon Blanc can be.

Date Awarded: April 2024

Details: Our Sauvignon Blanc is produced from the Croft Vineyard, a unique parcel located at the southern end of the Alexander Valley. The vineyard was planted at an elevation 700 feet above the valley floor in a saddle that connects the Russian River AVA and the Alexander Valley AVA. This location allows the cooling fog from the coast to penetrate early in the morning, cooling off the vines and extending hang-time for the grapes. These factors help develop intense aromatics of melon and exotic fruit flavors, while still preserving the crisp acidity that Sauvignon Blanc is known for.

This Viognier delivers a delightful combination of floral aromas and crisp summer fruit notes. Sourced from a small production ranch in the lower Dry Creek Valley, this wine is partially fermented in neutral oak, resulting in a balanced, supple texture that makes this unique varietal really shine!

Details: The 2021 Sangiacomo Chardonnay is sourced from grapes grown at the Kiser Vineyard off Arnold Drive in the cool and windy Sonoma Carneros AVA just north of San Pablo Bay. This venerable appellation is highly regarded as one of the finest places in California to grow cool-climate chardonnay. Using grapes sourced from the highly desired and low-yielding Old Wente selection, with its characteristic uneven berry sizing, allows our winemaker to craft a wine that gives a true sense of place.

It is also the deepest and most structured of the reds I tasted from Leo Steen. Dark cherry, plum, new leather, licorice, menthol and dried herbs open with some coaxing. This is an especially dark, almost somber wine, but there is plenty of varietal character.

Boasts forth on the palate with juicy red fruits, cardamom spice, blood orange, and earth. Not heavy, more ethereal. Mid palate entry has a delicate richness. The vineyard is also considered Deep End in Anderson Valley. 66% clone 2A (Wadenswill) 34% Pommard clone #5. Tasting Notes: Dark ruby with a twinge of purple. Full blown spice on the nose! Dark black fruited with a hint of clove, anise and sandalwood. Really quite pleasant and esoteric, kind of the “Summer of Love” aromatics… Well integrated toasty oak ...
