In this episode, Leo Hansen of Leo Steen Wines delves into the exciting release of their new sparkling Chenin Blanc, cultivated from a vineyard with a history dating back to 1979, located by the Sacramento River. This family-focused wine offers a unique taste, thanks to the sandy, well-drained soils and shaded grape cultivation, leading to a wine with acidity and refreshing green notes ideal for sparkling wines.
Leo shares his unexpected journey from sommelier to winemaker, which culminated in the creation of his own brand in 2004. Through collaborations and industry mentorship, he has been able to create a diverse wine portfolio concentrating mainly on Chenin Blanc but also includes Cabernet and Pinot.
Visitors to the Leo Steen Wines vineyard can expect a memorable tasting room experience enriched by food pairings, music, and food trucks. Set near the river in Healdsburg, the winery provides a scenic backdrop for guests to sample a variety of unique Chenin Blanc wines that demonstrate different vineyard sites and winemaking styles.
