The Montepulciano varietal is indigenous of central Italy and is not to be confused with wines from the region or town with the same name. The bouquet is rich in horse barn, saddle-hanging aromas. On the palate there are hints of Mayan chocolate, currants, and pepper with loads of dark fruit and minerality on the finish. This hearty sipper will cut through fatty meats (like beef brisket) and pair nicely alongside rich, roasted winter vegetables. Try it also with Filipino Beef Adobo, braised goat, Shepard’s pie, and meatloaf. On thevegetarian side, try it with: baked macaroni and cheese, stuffed baked potato, and Southern-style collard greens. In fromage: aged cheddar, or parmesan.
