Carignane is a widely planted grape around the world, however in Northern Sonoma County it is often found interplanted in old vine field blends. Our 1908 Brignole block is no exception. Carignane adds substance, color, and spicy acidity to Zinfandel and has proven to be a complex, lighter-bodied red wine when produced as a stand-alone varietal. We have crafted this silky-textured wine to avoid the pitfalls of over extraction by pressing the grapes earlier than usual, avoiding harsh tannins. Bright aromas of berry and rose petals lead into juicy flavors of pomegranate and summer berries. This lighter weight wine pairs wonderfully with Moroccan Chicken and other sweetly spiced dishes and is a versatile sipper on its own.
